Why Tanzania

Tanzania’s economy holds great potential, yet private capital flows remain limited. Between 2014 and 2023, the country attracted under $600 million in private investment – compared to $3.7 billion in Kenya – and accounts for less than 10% of East Africa’s current deal activity. The disparity between potential and performance reflects persistent barriers in the investment ecosystem, including pipeline gaps, regulatory hurdles, and information asymmetry.

Momentum is now gathering as Tanzania advances reforms that make it easier to start, grow, and invest in businesses. Through targeted measures to strengthen enterprise readiness, expand access to capital, and align policy implementation, the country is increasingly well-placed to translate investor interest into concrete investments and sustainable development outcomes.

Who We Are

Invest for Impact Tanzania (IIT) unlocks capital for high-potential Tanzanian enterprises by making it easier for investors to find opportunities, close deals, and deliver meaningful social and economic returns.

We take a dual approach – both catalysing near-term investment and laying the foundations for sustained long-term market growth. This involves closing transactions that demonstrate market potential and build investor confidence, while strengthening the broader ecosystem through better-aligned policies, improved advisory capacity, and clearer market intelligence.

Invest for Impact Tanzania is funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) as part of the Productivity for Prosperity (P4P) Programme, and implemented by Palladium under its Green Growth Facility (GGF).
